A trip to Leura

Just a quick hi, hi, hello! It's been two weeks and a bit since I last posted. Oops! I'm back at work and the time is already slipping away. Oh well.

Two weekends ago, Astin and I took a trip to the Blue Mountains. She had booked us into a lovely B&B to celebrate my birthday, which was such a thoughtful and amazing idea. We ate delicious food and decadent desserts, visited antique shops and scrumptious food stores and took numerous photos of the famous sights like the Three Sisters (those three rock formations for those not familiar) and Leura Cascades (the two natural waterfall images at the end).

We also visited the Everglades Historical House and Gardens. This 1930s garden is an exceptional example of landscaping work thanks to the elegant fusing of European design with Australian Natives. One of the most stand out aspects of the garden for me was the Glen, an artifically created waterfall. The look out over Jamison's Valley was spectacular too. Can't you just imagine it? 'Oh darling, just going to take a stroll to the lookout'. Not many of us can say that about our back gardens! The house itself was interesting - particularly because of the bathrooms. The bathrooms you say? Well, yes. These elegant, overstated and incredibly large rooms are unique in their design, with imported European tiles and a focus on pampering. The women's bathroom is amazing with it's giant tiled tub! We stopped for milkshakes in the tea room, and spent a lot of time being quite silly, lazing about and exploring here. I'm really tempted to go back again...

Party like it's 1933 (or there abouts)

For my birthday at the end of last year, I told my friends to pretend it was any year between 1920 - 1940 and hence dress (and act) accordingly for my birthday party. We went to Centennial Park, we played croquet, had Pimms and lemonade, danced to classic tunes and ate cucumber sandwiches. Frankly, my friends did an amazing job as you can see just from digging about in their wardrobes.

I wore a beautiful 1930s Maxi Dress from Dear Golden with art deco star hair pins, blue glass filigree cocktail ring and filigree bangle from Jean Jean Vintage. And of course, if you're looking for a similar bob style for long hair, check out my tutorial here. My art deco necklace was from Lauren Rose Design - which is coincidentally where Astin got her art deco filigree onyx ring you can see her wearing. She also showed up in an authentic 1920s dress with jazz instruments printed on it, which was pretty fantastic.

I'm glad everyone was so sporting about the whole thing. Next year, heaven knows what theme I'll have. Downton Abbey Dinner, Mid-Century Mad Cocktails or perhaps a Jane Austen Ball?

Happy New Year

...And we're back. Can you believe it's a new year? 2012 was kind of a rough one for me. It definitely had some real low points for relationships and with my own and others' health too. I've already put in a giant wish for the people I love to be healthier, happier and safer this year. Fingers crossed.

I spent last night at a friend's place overlooking the beautiful Sydney Harbour. The fireworks were breathtaking yet again, and the company wasn't too bad either. Oh, and there may have been champagne sipping and fluttering of my fake eyelashes too (they were good fun!)

What is your wish for the year ahead?
